Walt Disney's (DIS) ABC broadcast network launched an on-air commercial campaign urging viewers to submit comments to the Federal Communications Commission as the agency reviews ABC's petition regarding "The View," its daily talk show.
One of the ad spots says, "The View has welcomed your favorite guests and covered the issues you care about for nearly 30 years. Now, the FCC wants to control who is allowed to appear on the show." The spot includes a QR code linking to the FCC's public comment page.
The FCC's Media Bureau last month sought public comment on ABC's request that "The View" be deemed a bona fide news interview program, which would qualify it for an exemption from statutory equal-opportunities requirements for political candidates.
