Global commodities trader Trafigura has launched a new shipping company, Volare Shipping, that will own and operate a fleet of oil tankers, starting with six very large crude carriers with eight newbuilds forthcoming, it said in a statement on Monday.
Volare Shipping has disclosed a contemplated private placement in order to raise about $500 million ahead of a proposed share listing on Euronext Growth Oslo.1, after which Trafigura would become a majority owner, it said. Oslo-listed shares would trade from Oct. 5 with ticker VLCC.
The company would be managed by Trafigura's own shipping division that currently manages about 500 vessels, half of which are dedicated to the shipment of crude oil.
Trafigura said the establishment and listing of Volare Shipping will give the company a platform for expansion while investors would gain exposure to a "high-specification fleet commercially managed by one of the world's leading tanker charterers."
