Exelon (EXC) utility Commonwealth Edison has reconnected the power supply to almost all customers who experienced outages during storms on Aug. 11 and 12, it said in a statement on Friday, in what has been the company's biggest restoration response this year.
The utility said 99% of customers were reconnected after it deployed more than 4,500 personnel, contractors and assistance crews to repair damage from wind and tornadoes that impacted about 410,000 subscribers.
The company was helped by other utility companies and regional partners including overhead lineworks to speed up the operation, it said.
The teams were faced with extensive transmission system damage such as broken poles and downed wire.
ComEd said it had experienced 20 major weather events so far this year, the highest level seen in more than two decades. The state of Illinois has recorded 207 tornadoes this year so far, the highest number in the country.
