Canada Corn Output Seen at Record High in 2026; Wheat, Canola Production to Decline: StatsCan

By

High corn and soybean production estimates in Canada this year are expected to offset declines in wheat, canola, barley, and oats, according to the country's statistical agency in a note Wednesday.

Nationally, corn for grain is projected to hit a record 16.5 million tonnes, or 11.3% higher than in 2025, driven by higher yields and increased harvested area, wrote Statistics Canada in a statement, based on recent yield model estimates using satellite imagery and agroclimatic data.

Soybean production is projected to increase by 7.8% annually, reaching 7.5 million tonnes, driven by higher yields and expanded cultivation area, added StatsCan.

Wheat production is expected to decline by 10.9% annually to 36.1 million tonnes in 2026 as a result of reduced harvested area and yields, while canola production is anticipated to edge down 0.8% to 22.1 million tonnes.

Additionally, barley is projected to experience a slight decline of 0.1% annually, with oats dropping 22.7% due to lower yields and harvested area.
