Oil and gold prices fell Tuesday morning as the threat of war faded after the US moved to economic sanctions against Iran.
The US also threatened sanctions against nations that continue to trade with Iran, including China, which has rejected the US threat.
West Texas Intermediate October crude oil futures, the US benchmark, fell 3% to $82.47 per barrel. October Brent oil futures, the international benchmark, also fell 3% to $89.42 a barrel.
Comex gold December futures edged down 0.7% to $4,665.70 per ounce.
In agricultural commodities, wheat futures for December delivery fell 1.5%, to $6.88 per bushel, while canola November futures rose 3% to C$773.30 per tonne.
