BioNTech (BNTX) shares fell 9% in early Friday trading after the company said it has decided to terminate a phase 2 trial evaluating autogene cevumeran as an adjuvant monotherapy in patients with high-risk stage II or stage III colorectal cancer.
The trial's independent safety board recommended discontinuing treatment and ending the trial, saying further continuation was unlikely to change the efficacy outcome, according to the company.
A separate phase 2 trial evaluating autogene cevumeran in combination with checkpoint inhibition and chemotherapy for adjuvant pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma is not affected and will continue as planned, the company said.
