The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) Tuesday explained how it will deploy up to CA$1 billion in investments under its existing CA$6 billion Defense Platform.
The federally owned bank will deploy CA$500 million across funds focused on defense and dual-use technologies. An additional CA$200 million will go to StrongNorth, raising the fund total to CA$500 million. StrongNorth is BDC's venture capital fund focused on early-stage companies.
BDC's CA$6 billion Defence Platform, provides Canadian defense and dual-use companies with financing, investment and advisory solutions to grow and compete globally, a statement said.
"Canadian entrepreneurs are developing technologies that are increasingly important to Canada's security, resilience and economic growth. With its Defence Platform, BDC is using its capital and expertise to help these companies innovate, scale and reach new markets, while helping build a stronger investment ecosystem for Canada's defence and dual-use sector," said BDC Chief Executive Isabelle Hudon.
