Australian shares closed higher on Tuesday, tracking gains on Wall Street.
The S&P/ASX 200 Index gained 0.3%, or 25.90 points, to close at 8,757.80.
Overnight on Wall Street, the S&P 500, the Nasdaq Composite, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rallied 1.5%, 2.3%, and 0.7%, respectively.
Brent crude oil futures traded around $100 per barrel after briefly falling lower. US President Donald Trump said he would be open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is expected to travel to New York for the UN General Assembly.
On the domestic front, the ANZ-Roy Morgan Australian consumer confidence fell 1.9 points to 72 in the week of Sept. 14 to 20. Australian consumer confidence remains near recent lows as renewed Middle East tensions and surging fuel prices weigh on economic outlooks and keep inflation expectations elevated.
Australian household spending was up 0.1% in August, suggesting signs of cutting back, according to the CommBank Household Spending Insights. Data indicates a broad-based slowdown in spending compared to growth rates observed in 2025 and early this year.
In company news, Bellevue Gold (ASX:BGL) logged AU$0.0047 in earnings per share for fiscal 2026, compared with a loss of AU$0.035 a year ago. For the 12 months ended June 30, revenue was AU$576.3 million versus AU$505.8 million previously.
Capstone Copper (ASX:CSC) agreed to sell its Cozamin copper-silver-zinc-lead mine in Zacatecas, Mexico to Luca Mining in a deal valued at up to $385 million. The consideration comprises $275 million in upfront cash, $15 million in Luca shares, $35 million in deferred payments, and up to $60 million in contingent cash tied to annual average copper prices.
Broken Hill Gold (ASX:BH6) has completed the strategic demerger of its North Queensland exploration assets to Manda Resources, comprising the Alice River gold project and St George gold-antimony projects.
