Australia's New South Wales has opened a record-breaking auction to procure 2.5 gigawatts of renewable capacity and 12 gigawatt-hours of energy storage, the state's government said on Wednesday.
Administered by AusEnergy Service Limited, the concurrent rounds target a massive expansion of both primary generation and long-duration storage capacity under the framework of the NSW electricity infrastructure roadmap.
Tender 8 represents the largest Long-Term Energy Service Agreement auction conducted by the state to date, seeking 2.5 GW of new renewable energy capacity, as per the statement.
Simultaneously, ASL has initiated Tender 9, which seeks up to 12 GWh of long-duration storage.
Eligible assets for this round include utility-scale battery energy storage systems and pumped hydro installations.
Binding determinations for successful project bids across both Tenders 8 and 9 are slated to be finalized by late 2026, it said.
