US import prices rose by 0.7% in August, above the 0.5% increase expected in a survey compiled by Bloomberg as of 6:00 am ET and following a 0.3% decrease in July.
Excluding a 0.1% gain in petroleum prices, import prices increased by 0.8% in August after a 0.3% July increase. A 0.3% increase was expected for August.
Excluding all fuels, import prices were up 0.8% in August.
Export prices rebounded by 0.6% in August, as expected and following a 1.4% decline in July. Export prices were up 0.7% excluding a 0.5% rise in agricultural commodity prices.
