Apple (AAPL) updated its iOS policies in Brazil to allow alternative app marketplaces and third-party payment processing under an agreement with the country's competition regulator.
Developers will be able to distribute apps outside the App Store and offer additional payment methods for digital goods and services, Apple said Thursday in a statement. App Store transactions will carry a 10% or 21% commission, while apps distributed outside Apple's storefront will pay a 5% core technology fee.
To mitigate new privacy and security risks, Apple will require authorization for alternative marketplaces and apply a baseline notarization review to all iOS apps. The company will also bar Kids category apps and users under 18 from using external website links for transactions to reduce fraud risks.
