Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google entered a five-year carbon credit agreement with Mitti Labs to help it ramp up climate-smart agriculture across 100,000 hectares of smallholder rice farms in India, the climate-technology startup said Thursday.
By transitioning farmers to water and methane-savings irrigation practices, the deal will focus on eliminating three million tons of near-term warming impact while conserving water across the country, according to a statement.
Under the agreement, Mitti Labs will deliver one million high-integrity credits to Google by 2030, according to the company.
