US crude stockpiles rose by 1.9 million barrels to 465.7 mmbbls in the week ended April 17, the Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report on Wednesday.
Crude inventories are now about 3% above the five-year average for this time of year, the EIA said.
Crude oil input to refineries decreased by 55,000 barrels per day from the previous week to average almost 16 mmb/d in the week ending April 17. Crude oil production dropped by 11,000 b/d to average 13.6 mmb/d.
Commercial crude imports increased by 787,000 b/d to average about 6.1 mmb/d. Total motor gasoline stockpiles decreased by 4.6 mmbbls from last week to 228.4 mmbbls, and distillate stocks dropped by 3.4 mmbbls to 108.1 mmbbls, the agency said.
