-- Apple (AAPL) Store employees at the soon-to-be closed Towson, Maryland, retail store, represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, filed an Unfair Labor Practice charge with the National Labor Relations Board against Apple, alleging it illegally discriminated against unionized workers.
The iPhone maker has refused to let Towson employees transfer to other locations, requiring them to reapply as external candidates, while offering these opportunities to non-union employees affected by store closures at other locations, the IAM Union said in a statement Monday.
The IAM Union alleges that these actions, taken in retaliation for workers' protected union activity, constitute discrimination in violation of federal labor law, according to the statement.
