NWS Issues Fire Weather Warning for Texas, New Mexico, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota

-- The US National Weather Service issued a red flag warning early Thursday for New Mexico's Raton, Clayton, Roy, Las Vegas, Tucumcari, Clovis, Portales, Roswell, Santa Rosa, Moriarty, and Santa Fe. TXNM Energy (TXNM) unit Public Service Co. of New Mexico and Xcel Energy (XEL) are among the primary electricity suppliers in the state.

A red flag warning was issued for Dalhart, Perryton, Dumas, Borger, Pampa, Amarillo, Hereford, Plainview, Dimmitt, Lubbock. Littlefield, Morton, and Clarendon in Texas. These places are primarily served by American Electric Power's (AEP) Texas unit and Xcel Energy.

Oklahoma's Boise City, Guymon, Beaver, Alva, Woodward, Gage, and Elk City were also placed under a similar warning. OGE Energy (OGE) unit Oklahoma Gas & Electric and American Electric Power subsidiary Public Service Co. of Oklahoma are the major electric utility service providers in the state.

In Kansas, a similar warning was raised for Tribune, Scott City, Garden City, Ulysses, Dodge City, Liberal, Hays, Hill City, Oakley, Colby, Goodland, St.Francis, Oberlin, Concordia, and Salina. A flood and a flash flood warning was raised for small pockets in the state. Evergy (EVRG) is among the major electric utility service providers in the state.

Almost the entirety of Nebraska, except for Omaha, Lincoln, Beatrice, Nebraska City, and Falls City, was also covered under a fire weather conditions warning watch. Most of Nebraska falls under the service area of regional transmission organization Southwest Power Pool, with Midcontinent ISO also serving some areas.

In South Dakota, a red flag warning was issued for Custer, Hermosa, Pine Ridge, Hot Springs, Kadoka, Martin, Mission, Pierre, White River, Winner, Chamberlain, Lake Andes, Mitchell, Huron, Sioux Falls, Vermillion, Brookings, Murdo, Miller, Redfield, Watertown, Milbank, Sisseton, and Aberdeen. Otter Tail (OTTR) subsidiary Otter Tail Power, Black Hills (BKH) unit Black Hills Energy, NorthWestern Energy (NWE), Xcel Energy, and MDU Resources (MDU) unit Montana-Dakota Utilities are among the major electricity providers in the state.

Also covered under a red flag warning watch were Colorado's Colorado Springs, Limon, La Junta, Kim, Springfield, Trinidad, La Veta Pass, Pueblo, Eads, Flagler, Cheyenne Wells, Pikes Peak, San Luis, Alamosa, South Fork, Saguache, Westcliffe, Canon City, Salida, Buena Vista, Leadville, Woodland Park, Fairplay, Castle Rock, Georgetown, Akron, Deer Trail, Ordway, and Wray. Meanwhile, a freeze warning was issued for Cortez, Pagosa Springs, Durango, Vail, Rifle, and Kremmling. The state is primarily served by Xcel Energy and Black Hills Energy.

Red flag warnings were also issued for Minnesota's Worthington, Pipestone, Morris, Willmar, Wheaton and Marshall; and Iowa's Sioux City.

A similar warning was raised for Wyoming's Bill, Lance Creek, Glenrock, Lance, Dusk, Glendo, Torrington, Wheatland, Chugwater, Garrett, Pine Bluffs, Cheyenne, and Newcastle. Meanwhile, a winter storm warning was issued for Cody, Dubois, Jackson, Lander, and Pinedale. These places primarily fall under the service area of PacifiCorp's Rocky Mountain Power.

The NWS issued a freeze warning for Utah's Brigham City, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Tooele, Provo, Nephi, Delta, Manti, Price, Richfield, Duchesne, Green River, Capitol Reef National Park, Cedar City, and Milford. Rocky Mountain Power is the major service provider in the state.

In Idaho, a freeze warning was issued for Caldwell, Boise, Mountain Home, Jeronte, Twin Falls, Burley, Shoshone, Arco, Pocatello, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls, Rigby, and Rexbury. These places are primarily served by Idacorp's (IDA) Idaho Power and Rocky Mountain Power.

A freeze warning was also raised for Washington's Wenatchee, Moses Lake, Yakima, Connell, Pasco, Sunnyside, Ellensburg, Walla Walla, Chelan, Coulee Dam, Ritzwell, Toledo, Centralia, Hoquiam, and Olympia. A winter storm warning was raised for Mount St. Helens, Cougar, while a flood warning was issued for areas near Chelan. Puget Sound Energy, PacifiCorp's Pacific Power, and Avista (AVA) unit Avista Utilities are among the major electricity service providers in the state.

In Oregon, a freeze warning was issued for Cave Junction, Gold Beach, Medford, Ashland, Grants Pass, Shady Cove, Cottage Grove, Eugene, Blue River, Sweet Home, Molalla, Salem, Albany and The Dalles. A winter storm warning was raised for Corbett, Mount Hood, Detroit, Santiam Pass, Bend, Oakridge, and Blue River. Pacific Power is among the service providers in these places.

California's Gasquet, Crescent City, Trinidad, Willow Creek, Weaverville, Fortuna, Eureka, Garberville, Shelter Cove, Willits, Ukiah, and Lakeport were also among the places covered under a freeze warning watch. These places are primarily served by Pacific Power and PG&E (PCG) unit Pacific Gas and Electric Company.

The NWS issued a flood warning for Michigan's Petoskey, Rogers City, Alpena, Gaylord, Mio, Traverse City, Houghton Lake, Tawas Lake, Cadillac, Houghton, Iron Mountain, Escanaba, Menominee, Big Rapids, Muskegon, Alma, Grand Rapids, Hastings, Ionia, Lansing, Kalamazoo, and Flint. CMS Energy (CMS) unit Consumers Energy, DTE Energy, WEC Energy Group (WEC) subsidiaries Upper Michigan Energy Resources and We Energies, Upper Peninsula Power Company, and Xcel Energy are among the major service providers in these places.

In Wisconsin, flood warning were raised for Janesville, Kenosha, Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin Dells, Milwaukee, Sheboygan, La Crosse, Appleton, Green Bay, Stevens Point, Whitehall, Neillsville, and Wausau. WEC Energy Group's Wisconsin Public Service, Xcel Energy, and Alliant Energy (LNT) are among the major service providers in the state.

Flood warnings were also issued for certain parts of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.
