Martinrea International Posts Higher Adjusted Profit, Lower Revenue; 2026 Outlook Maintained

Martinrea International (MRE.TO) after trade Thursday reported higher adjusted profit and lower revenue for the first quarter.The auto-parts manufacturer said its adjusted profit, which excludes most one-time items, rose to $32.5 million, or $0.45 per share, in the period, up from $29.5 million, or $0.41, a year ago. FactSet expectedRevenue fell 3.7 % to $1.13 billion from $1.17 billion a year prior. "The total decrease in sales was driven by year-over-year decreases across all operating segments," the company said. FactSet projected"We continue to monitor and address the impact of tariffs on our business, including the recent amendments to Section 232 tariffs impacting derivative steel and aluminum products. The vast majority of parts we export to the U.S. are USMCA-compliant and therefore exempt from tariffs. While the section 232 amendments affect some inputs we receive from our Tier 2 suppliers, the impact is modest and expected to be absorbed by our customers," Chief Executive Pat D'Eramo said.The company also reaffirmed its 2026 guidance, with Chief Financial Officer Peter Cirulis adding that Martinrea is "well-positioned to deliver on our 2026 outlook, which calls for total sales of $4.5 to $4.9 billion, adjusted operating income margin of 5.5% to 6%, and free cash flow of $125 to $175 million."The board approved a cash dividend of $0.05 per share, payable to shareholders of record on June 30 on or about July 15.Martinrea shares closed up $0.51 to $10.04 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Air Canada (AC.TO) first-quarter adjusted net loss narrowed as operating revenue advanced, the company said after trade on Thursday as it suspended its 2026 guidance due to volatile aviation fuel prices amid the Iran war.Air Canada reported an adjusted loss, which excludes most one-time items, of $16 million, or $0.05 per share, an improvement from the adjusted loss of $150 million, or $0.45, in the prior year period. Analysts polled by FactSet had expected a loss of $0.45 per share.Operating revenue rose 11% to a record $5.8 billion, driven by strong demand across the network, and above analysts expectations of $5.5 billion.Adjusted cost per available seat mile edged up year-over-year to $0.161 from $0.153, a statement added.Air Canada suspended its fiscal 2026 guidance, citing ongoing disruption in global energy markets and volatility in jet fuel prices. It is guiding to second quarter adjusted EBITDA of $575 million to $725 million, and increasing available seat miles (ASM) capacity by 0.5% to 1.0% year over year."Supported by solid demand, our second quarter 2026 guidance reflects our expectation to offset between 50% and 60% of the estimated incremental fuel expense through various commercial and cost actions. We continue to see strong demand across the network and throughout the booking window for the latter half of the year," said chief executive Michael Rousseau.Air Canada shares closed up $0.64 to $18.65 on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

CN Says Union Pacific-Norfolk Southern Merger Fails To Address Competitive Harms

Canadian National Railway (CNR.TO, CNI) after the close Thursday said it is reviewing Union Pacific UNP) and Norfolk Southern's (NSC) amended merger application submitted to the Surface Transportation Board (STB) and will remain "actively engaged" in this process.According to a statement, the applicants have failed to "materially improve the amended application" in ways that address the competitive harms of the merger. They have not remedied the "significant competitive harms" posed by the merger, nor have they offered any meaningful competitive enhancements as required under the board's new rules, said CN, adding that "these failures should be fatal to the application"."Given the magnitude of this transaction, the board's authority to impose conditions that protect competition and the public interest must be paramount. If Union Pacific and Norfolk Southern have set a cost cap on the conditions they're willing to accept, that's their business decision and their risk. It is not a ceiling on the board's authority, and it doesn't limit what's required in the public interest," said Olivier Chouc, CN's chief legal officer.CN Rail shares closed up C$4.66 at C$152.57 on Toronto Stock Exchange.

PharmaCorp Rx Acquires Eight Pharmacies For $24.2 Million

PharmaCorp Rx (PCRX.V) on Thursday said it agreed to acquire eight PharmaChoice Canada-bannered pharmacies in Eastern Canada for $24.2 million.The acquisitions, which will be financed with existing cash on hand, expands PharmaCorp's geographical footprint and operating scale, a statement said. All locations will continue to be operated by their existing managing pharmacists.The acquisitions are expected to close within 60 days.PharmaCorp also signed non-binding letters to acquire four morel pharmacies, which, if completed, are expected to close over the next two quarters."The acquisitions reflect the continued execution of our acquisition strategy and the strength of our sourcing network," said executive chair Alan Simpson. Silver Elephant Mining Up Near 6% as it Sells Additional "High-Grade" Silver Concentrate Lot From Bolivian Silver Mining Operation

Silver Elephant Mining (ELEF.TO) shares rose 6.1% after it sold a second silver-lead concentrate lot from its Apuradita Paca Mining Operation in Bolivia, on Thursday.The 31.6-tonne, dry basis, silver-lead concentrate grading 8,795 grams per tonne (g/t) silver (Ag) and 24% lead (Pb) was produced at a toll mill facility and sold in April 2026, it said. About 8,936 ounces (oz) of silver was contained in concentrate and sold at US$74.8 per oz. The processing campaign treated about 1,845 tonnes of Apuradita feed grading 248 g/t Ag and 0.8% Pb, it added."Underground mining operations at Apuradita continue at a steady rate with the company maintaining a monthly production target of 300 tonnes of silver-bearing mineralized material for the remainder of 2026," said the company in a statement. "The company notes highly-prospective exploration potential with initial tranche results demonstrating the silver-bearing mineralization at Apuradita extends to surface, which is approximately 20 meters vertically from the tunnel."ELEF believes the feed tonnages may be expanded beyond 2026 as additional mineralized zones are delineated and developed. Ongoing underground development has delineated multiple high-grade areas within the Apuradita tunnel, and the company is advancing additional mining faces through crosscuts and drifts to access and extract silver-bearing mineralized material from these zones, it said.Silver Elephant Mining has identified three "distinct" mineralization zones within the broader Apuradita project that are potentially amenable to open-pit mining. CIBC Lowers CGI's Price Target By C$5, Retains its Neutral Rating

CIBC Capital Markets retained its neutral rating on the shares of CGI (GIB-A.TO) but reduced its price target to C$107 from C$112 on Wednesday, after the company reported its second quarter results."We were surprised to see the stock down double-digits today following a 2% revenue miss and in-line adj. EBIT and adj. EPS," said CIBC in a note dated April 29. Commentary around delayed decision making in Europe is "incrementally negative" and bookings were down 4% Y/Y, and CIBC expects this could be impacting sentiment."We calculate an organic revenue decline in FQ2 of 3.6% Y/Y, improved from a 4.5% Y/Y decline last quarter but down from 0.4% growth in the year-ago quarter. We remain on the sidelines as AI disruption risk continues to be an overhang for CGI, but we see upside from improving government spending, faster-than-expected growth in its AI-integrated IP, and M&A. We retain our Neutral rating and reduce our price target to $107 (prior $112) as we slightly reduce our revenue estimates to reflect an incrementally weaker demand environment," CGI added in conclusion.Among key points, CIBC noted CGI is seeing delayed decision making in Europe.
