Patriot Battery Metals Produces High-Recovery, High-Grade Spodumene Concentrate from CV5 Pegmatite

Patriot Battery Metals (PMET.TO) has successfully produced high-recovery and high-grade spodumene concentrate from the CV5 Pegmatite at the Shaakichiuwaanaan property in Quebec, the company said late on Sunday.The company produced 4.47 tonnes of high-grade 6.09% lithium oxide spodumene concentrate at a low iron content of 0.58% and a high recovery of 89.0% from the CV5 Pegmatite using a Dense Media Separation pilot plant.The program termed "ApplePick" utilized multiple large, angular, mineralized boulders situated immediately down-ice of the principal CV5 outcrop, which were crushed on-site and shipped to SGS (Lakefield) as high head-grade feed for processing in a DMS pilot plant.The concentrate produced further demonstrates the potential for the company's proposed DMS only processing pathway for Shaakichiuwaanaan, the company said.The approach allowed for the rapid and cost-effective generation of spodumene concentrate on a larger scale, without drilling.DMS tailings streams from the pilot also generated feed material for a feasibility-level tantalum recovery program currently underway.Given the success of the ApplePick program, the company intends to launch the "BerryPick" program targeting surface pollucite samples for larger scale pilot testwork and concentrate sample preparation.

Pizza Pizza Royalty (PZA.TO), which indirectly owns the Pizza Pizza and Pizza 73 Rights and Marks, after trade Friday served up lower sales and adjusted profit for the first quarter.The company's adjusted earnings from operations stood at near $7.3 million, or $0.216 per share, in the period, down from $7.67 million, or $0.230 per share, a year ago. FactSet expected earnings per share of $0.23.Total system sales for the three months ended on March 31 fell to $145.8 million from $151.3 million a year prior. FactSet had projected sales of $150.9 million. The company said the decline was due to "continued pressure on discretionary spending, softer demand, and an increasingly competitive promotional retail landscape."Same store sales decreased 4.1%, and Royalty Pool sales decreased 3.6%.The company kept its dividend unchanged, paying $5.7 million, or $0.2325 per share, in this current quarter and the same period last year. The payout ratio rose to 134% from 117% a year ago.

National Bank of Canada Maintains Sector Perform on Real Matters, Raises Price Target to $7.50

National Bank of Canada on Friday raised maintained its sector-perform rating on the shares of Real Matters (REAL.TO) while raising its price target to $7.50 from $7.00 after the company swung to consolidated net income in its fiscal second quarter.The analysts said the company continues to add clients in its U.S. Title business, many of them coming from its large U.S. Appraisals customer base. The company added four clients in FQ2, including one of the largest non-bank servicers, and after the quarter ended, it signed a third Tier 1 lender and another top-100 lender.This momentum drove strong growth, with net revenue rising 176% year-over-year to $3.3 million, while adjusted EBITDA improved to -$0.4 million from -$2.1 million a year earlier. Although the Title segment currently makes up about 25% of total net revenue, it has the potential to scale to the size of the Appraisals business, the analysts added."All in, we think the FQ2 results were solid and reflect the company's execution to scale its U.S. Title business while increasing market share (across Appraisal and Title) and surfacing operating leverage. That said, the uncertain rate environment continues to lend to a balanced risk-to-reward profile," the analysts said.

Scotiabank continues to expect broad-based weakness for the U.S. dollar (USD) against all of the major developed economy currencies, supporting its outlook for a stronger Canadian dollar (CAD).The divergence in policy rate paths remains a core pillar of its fundamental outlook, the bank said in its latest foreign exchange outlook, adding that the USD outlook remains weak through the second half of 2026 and into the end of our forecast horizon at the end of 2027.Meanwhile, CAD continues to make "halting progress" toward Scotiabank's forecast targets as it continues to retrace its 2024-2025 decline.CAD made a fresh cycle high in early January, only to relinquish its early gains in the initial weeks of the US/Iran conflict that began in early March, said Eric Theoret, associate director for global foreign exchange at Scotiabank."The CAD's recent gains have delivered a meaningful narrowing in the discount (USDCAD premium) to our fair value estimate. Update: WTI Oil Falls As Iran Offers New Peace Plan

West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil closed lower Friday as Iran made a new peace proposal, however U.S. President Trump rejected the plan.WTI crude oil for June delivery closed down US$3.13 to US$101.94 per barrel, while July Brent oil was last seen down US$2.177 to US$108.23.Reuters reported Iran offered a new proposal to reach a peace deal with the United States. While details were not disclosed Trump rejected the plan, telling reporters he was not satisfied with the plan. However he confirmed indirect talks mediated by Pakistan are continuing by phone.Oil remains in short supply following the closure of the Strait, the chokepoint for exports from the Persian Gulf nations that accounted for 20% of daily demand. The lack of supply has pushed up crude oil prices by more than half since the Feb.28 start of the war amid shortages of crude oil and refined products, with Nymex gasoline futures up 81% since the war began while supplies of aviation are tightening.The supply crunch comes ahead of the May 23 start to the Memorial Day weekend, the traditional start of the summer driving season, when demand for fuel peaks, which is likely to push prices even higher."With summer demand season quickly approaching, we see a path for oil prices to exceed the 2022 and even 2008 highs, especially as sentiment may finally be shifting on the duration of the Hormuz blockage," Helima Croft, Head of Global Commodity Strategy and MENA Research at RBC Capital Markets, wrote.

CIBC Raises Its Primaris REIT Price Target By C$2, Reiterates its Outperformer Rating

CIBC Capital Markets reiterated its outperformer rating on the shares of Primaris Real Estate Investment Trust (PMZ-UN.TO) while raising its price target to C$22.00 from C$20.00 on Thursday, following PMZ's first quarter results on Wednesday.PMZ reported Q1 FFO/unit of $0.425 (-3.2% Y/Y), broadly in line with consensus, noted CIBC."Our 2027 FFO/unit estimate rises by near 2%, as we better reflect the improved leasing cadence on the ground," said CIBC, adding it $22 price target is based on an 11 times 2027 estimated FFO/unit multiple (10.2 times previously), translating to a 5% discount to the bank's revised one-year-out NAV (9% previously), "reflective of its risk, growth prospects, and leverage versus peers."CIBC also reiterated its belief that PMZ unitholders will benefit from occupancy improvements and rent growth over the long term. CIBC Upgrades Choice Properties REIT to Outperformer, Maintains $16.50 Price Target

CIBC Capital Markets upgraded its rating on the units of Choice Properties REIT (CHP-UN.TO) to outperformer while maintaining a $16.50 price targets.Since its deal to acquire $5.0 billion of First Capital REIT (FCR-UN.TO) assets was announced about two weeks ago, Choice units have declined 6% vs. the Retail REITs +2% and all REITs flat, writes analyst Tal Woolley."While the deal is -3% dilutive to annualized FFO/u, the combined portfolio quality is higher, with an expected improvement in the overall organic growth rate, so the pullback relative to peers seems overdone," he adds, noting that Choice earnings remain predictable.The First Capital deal raises leverage, but it can be reduced and Choice Properties has a track record of successfully deleveraging. Woolley therefore believes a slightly higher multiple on slightly lower earnings is justified. "The projected total return of ~15% has gone from average to the high end of our Retail REIT coverage universe (range: 0%-15%, mean 8%), so we are raising our rating."The $16.50 price target is based on 15.1x 2027E FFO/unit (14.5x before), equal to a 10% premium to the NAV estimate one year out (+8% premium before). CIBC Lowers Winpak's Price Target to C$47 From C$52, Maintains its Neutral Rating

CIBC Capital Markets maintained its neutral rating on the shares of Winpak (WPK.TO) and cut its price target to C$47.00 from C$52.00 after the company reported its first quarter results on Wednesday."We maintain our Neutral rating on Winpak, while moderating our price target to $47 (from $52) on lower estimates and a 0.25x reduction in our EV/EBITDA valuation multiple (now 6.5x 2027E)," said CIBC. "We remain on the sidelines pending greater visibility on the upcoming USMCA renewal, headwinds from rising resin prices and WPK's ability to achieve sustainable volume growth."While Winpak does not host an earnings call and the company's "prepared remarks skewed quite cautious," WPK noted that customer shipments accelerated in the second half of Q1, said CIBC and added that after speaking with management, it "largely remain comfortable" with its estimates for the remainder of 2026."Winpak reported EBITDA of (US)$54MM, well below our forecast of (US)$60MM and consensus of (US)$59MM," noted CIBC. "Adjusted EBITDA margins of 19.2% (CIBCe 20.5%) were ~120 bps lower Y/Y."CIBC's 2026 EBITDA estimate decreases 3% to US$237MM following the Q1 miss and reductions to CIBC's Q2-Q4 margin assumptions, partially offset by higher selling prices, it added. CIBC's 2027E EBITDA moves 4% lower to US$255MM on "modest reductions" to volume/margin assumptions, as well as expectations for deflationary pressure on selling prices, it further said."We see volumes growing 2.0% in 2026E (vs. -1.0% in 2025), with growth accelerating in 2027E to 4.1% with the ramp-up of WPK's new capacity and share gains with CPG customers," CIBC added.On the pricing side, "with Middle East conflict-related supply disruptions leading to upward pressure on key inputs like resin", CIBC expects pricing comps to be up 15% in 2026, vs. +0.8% in 2025, before seeing deflationary pressure in 2027E of -10% as supply constraints ease, said CIBC.For EBITDA margins, CIBC expects levels to average 18.0% in 2026 amid rising raw material costs, before rebounding to 20.5% in 2027."During the 2021/2022 supply chain disruptions and resulting inflationary pressures on raw material prices, WPK saw EBITDA margins dip to 16%-19% given the lag on passing through costs on indexed business," noted CIBC.
