Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Profit Rises 118% in Fiscal Q1

Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (TYO:4182) posted an 118% year-over-year rise in profit attributable to owners of the parent to 18.3 billion yen for the three months ended June 30 from 8.4 billion yen.The chemical products company's basic earnings per share increased to 94.02 yen from 43.17 yen a year ago, according to a Tokyo Stock Exchange filing on Thursday.Net sales jumped 26% to 224 billion yen from 178 billion yen in the year-ago period.In a separate filing, the company raised its forecast for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2027, with an attributable profit of 55 billion yen, basic EPS of 282.04 yen, and net sales of 860 billion yen, on higher market prices for methanol and engineering plastics due to the Middle East crisis.

Veritas In Silico (TYO:130A) and Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (TYO:4182) jointly filed a composition-of-matter patent for a novel antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) drug candidate targeting lncRNA H19, which is associated with certain types of cancers, according to a Tokyo bourse filing on Monday.The first-in-class nucleic acid ASO drug candidate will take eight to 10 years to develop, the release said.Veritas In Silico plans to seek regulatory approval via relatively small-scale clinical trials while exploring partnership opportunities, followed by label expansion and global commercialization after approval.Shares of Mitsubishi Gas Chemical rose over 3%, while Veritas In Silico fell 0.5% recently.

Update: Seven Japanese Firms Secure Certification for India-Sourced Low-Carbon Ammonia Plan

A consortium of seven Japanese companies, led by IHI (TYO:7013), has received government certification for its plan to utilize low-carbon ammonia produced in India, under a price-gap support scheme tied to Japan's Hydrogen Society Promotion Act.IHI will offtake ammonia from a project with ACME Group in Odisha and supply it to the partners for use in power generation and industrial feedstock, aiming to cut environmental impact, according to a statement on Tuesday.IHI will also develop domestic infrastructure and use the fuel at its own facilities, while planning to expand the supply chain safely across sectors in Japan and abroad.The other Japanese companies are Kobe Steel (TYO:5406), Sumitomo Chemical (TYO:4005), Nippon Beet Sugar Manufacturing (TYO:2108), Hokkaido Electric Power (TYO:9509), Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (TYO:4182), and UBE (TYO:4208).Earlier, Nikkei Asia reported that Tokyo and New Delhi are set to finalize support for a massive green ammonia venture between IHI and ACME during Prime Minister Modi's meeting with his Japanese counterpart later this week.
