Nippon Paper Industries to Temporarily Suspend Hungarian EV Battery Material Subsidiary
Nippon Paper Industries (TYO:3863)has decided to temporarily suspend operations at its Hungarian subsidiary, Nippon Paper Chemicals Europe (NPCE) due to deteriorating EV market conditions in Europe and North America.The suspension, effective Dec. 31, aims to prevent further losses and cash flow deterioration, as the company look at optimizing balance sheet, according to a Tokyo bourse filing on Monday.NPCE, established in 2022 and fully owned by Nippon Paper, posted net sales of only 74,000 euro and an operating loss of 5.98 million euro for the year ended December 2025.The company expects to book an extraordinary loss of 5 billion yen for the fiscal year ending March 2027, while production will be consolidated at its domestic Gotsu Mill to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
