S&P/TSX Composite Index Extends Losses For Second Straight Day, as Bond Yields Jump
The S&P/TSX Composite Index extended Wednesday's losses, and was down near 106 points mid-morning Thursday as bond yields jumped. Shares in base metals and healthcare were the worst performers.Base metals were down 1.2%, as gold and other metals prices declined.The healthcare sector fell 1.1%.The energy sector, boosted by higher oil prices, was the best performer, up 1.9%, on last look.Rising bond yields impacted the stock market for the second day. The 30-year Treasury bond yield hit 5.402%, while the 10-year Treasury note yield jumped to 5.112%.In stocks, Thinkific (THNC.TO) jumped 75% to CA$2.10 per share after it announced Wednesday afternoon job cuts and raised its third-quarter adjusted EBITDA guidance.Slate Grocery REIT (SGR-UN.TO) fell near 28% to CA$11.01 per unit after it announced the suspension of its monthly distribution
