Coastal Bend LNG Begins Federal Permitting Process for Proposed Texas Export Terminal

Coastal Bend LNG has begun the federal permitting process for its proposed liquefied natural gas export terminal on the Texas Gulf Coast by requesting entry into the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's pre-filing review process, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.Coastal Blend LNG said it expects to submit a formal application to FERC under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act in early 2027.The proposed facility would include four liquefaction trains, each with a capacity of 4.8 million metric tons per annum, for a total nameplate capacity of 19.2 MTPA.The project also includes LNG storage tanks, marine loading facilities and integrated carbon capture infrastructure designed to enable the transportation and permanent geological sequestration of carbon dioxide."The initiation of FERC's pre-filing process marks an important milestone for Coastal Bend LNG and reflects the progress we have made across engineering, commercial development and regulatory planning," Chief Executive Officer Nick Flores said in a statement.Chief Commercial Officer Keith Shoemaker said the project's Texas Gulf Coast location provides access to abundant natural gas supplies, proximity to geologic formations suitable for carbon sequestration and shipping flexibility to serve both Asian and European markets."Our location positions us to provide LNG with an emissions profile that aligns with the CLEAN initiative's transparency expectations while supporting customers' compliance with the EU Methane Regulation," Shoemaker said. The permitting milestone follows several recent project developments, including the selection of ConocoPhillips' Optimized Cascade Process as the facility's liquefaction technology.Coastal Bend LNG also named KBR (KBR) and Tecnicas Reunidas as front-end engineering and design and engineering, procurement and construction contractors, respectively. The company said filings related to the FERC process will be reviewed before submission by the energy regulatory practice of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.Price: $36.59, Change: $-1.24, Percent Change: -3.28%
