Eagle Materials Can Still Spin Off Wallboard Business Before Residential Cycle Turns, RBC Says

Eagle Materials (EXP) should split into separate heavy and lightside businesses as there is still time to create a pure play wallboard company for significant value creation before the residential market cycle turns, RBC Capital Markets said in a note Tuesday.Healthy industry trends are driven by data center buildouts boosting cement volumes and robust state budgets, but residential headwinds continue to loom, the brokerage said. While rising diesel and freight prices are mounting pressure on delivery costs, particularly in wallboard, primary solid-fuel requirements for fiscal 2027 are already locked in, offering protection from near-term energy cost exposure, RBC said."Our fear is that in the current form, the heavy building materials exposure will weigh down and temper the potential upside from a residential re-rating," analysts said. The brokerage reiterated its sector perform rating on the stock and boosted its price target to $219 per share from $208.Price: $197.77, Change: $-2.11, Percent Change: -1.06%
