Cineplex Books Highest May Box Office Revenue Since 2019

Cineplex (CGX.TO) recorded box office revenues of C$60.5 million for May, its highest box office for the month since 2019, the company said Tuesday.Top performing films in May included The Devil Wears Prada 2, Michael, Obsession, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, and Backrooms.Cineplex's box office revenues hit $120.5 million for the second quarter to date, rising from $106.7 million in the same period a year ago."May's performance reflects the strength of our content slate, sustained consumer demand for the theatrical experience, and our team's continued focus on delivering premium, differentiated offerings," CEO Ellis Jacob said.Cineplex is poised for a strong balance of the year with major upcoming releases including Disclosure Day, Toy Story 5 and Supergirl rounding out the second quarter, followed by Minions & Monsters and Moana, the company said.

Cineplex Partners with TSN to Screen Select FIFA World Cup 2026 Matches Live in Theatres

Cineplex (CGX.TO) will be partnering with Bell Media's TSN to broadcast select matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026 live in select theatres nationwide, the company said on Friday.Tickets will be released in stages starting with select group stage matches. They will be available from this afternoon, in theatres and online, a statement said.Tickets to additional games will be made available closer to match day in additional staged releases, Cineplex said.Tickets are $9.99 each (in-theatre price) and tickets purchased online are subject to an online booking fee up to $1.50. Cineplex Q1 Net Loss Narrows, Total Revenues Rise

Cineplex (CGX.TO) reported narrower net loss and higher total revenues in the first quarter, the company said on Monday.First quarter net loss was C$22.4 million, compared to net loss of $36.6 million in the corresponding year-ago quarter.The company reported first quarter net loss from continuing operations of $22.4 million, compared to net loss from continuing operations of $35.1 million in the year-ago quarter.First quarter total revenues were around $291 million, compared to $251.7 million in the year-ago quarter.The company also achieved first quarter box office revenues of $127.4 million, an increase of 25% over the prior year, it added."We remain focused on strengthening our balance sheet, enhancing financial flexibility, and delivering shareholder returns," said Ellis Jacob, President and Chief Executive Officer. "During the quarter, we extended the maturity of our Bank Credit Agreement and returned capital to shareholders through share repurchases under our NCIB, reinforcing our commitment to a balanced and disciplined capital allocation strategy.""Following a positive first quarter, April box office revenues were up 17% year over year," added the CEO.
