
Banco Santander First-half Profit Jumps 31% on Strong Customer Activity, Polska Sale Gain
Banco Santander (SAN.MC, BNC.L) on Wednesday reported a 31% year-over-year surge in first-half profit, driven by strong customer activity and the continued execution of its One Transformation efficiency initiative.Attributable profit for the six months ended June 30 rose to 8.97 billion euros from 6.83 billion euros earlier. The result included a 1.9 billion-euro net capital gain from its sale of Santander Bank Polska.The Spanish bank's total income grew to 30.82 billion euros from 28.98 billion euros, supported by a 7.1% jump in net interest income and an 8% growth in net fee income.Santander attributed the revenue growth to higher customer activity, deeper customer relationships and business volume growth across all global businesses. During the last 12 months, it added 12 million customers to reach 182 million.Loans and advances stood at 1.149 trillion euros as of June 30, up 14% from a year earlier, supported by the integration of the recently acquired TSB Banking Group.Looking ahead, the group affirmed its targets for 2026, including mid-single-digit revenue growth and profit higher than the 14.1 billion euros reported in 2025. It also maintained its target for a profit above 20 billion euros by 2028.Santander shares were up more than 1% in Madrid and London during early Wednesday trading.
