Woodside Energy and Petroleos Mexicanos signed a non-binding MOU to expand their Mexico partnership and assess new Gulf of Mexico opportunities, Woodside said Thursday.
The Australian energy company said the agreement covers potential deepwater hydrocarbon exploration and extraction, while the companies will exchange technical expertise and industry best practices.
Woodside CEO Liz Westcott and PEMEX CEO Juan Carlos Carpio Fragoso signed the MOU in Mexico City following discussions focused on expanding cooperation between the two companies.
"The agreement strengthens our relationship and opens the door to explore future opportunities to work together in Mexico's deepwater," said Woodside chief executive officer Liz Westcott.
Woodside and PEMEX are currently jointly developing Trion, about 180 kilometers offshore and 30 kilometers south of the US-Mexico maritime border, in 2,500 meters of water.
The project reached 64% completion as of June 30, 2026, with Woodside forecasting $7.2 billion in total capital investment and targeting first oil in 2028.
