US land drilling activity increased by five rigs last week, lifting the Enverus count to 610 as horizontal drilling continued to trend higher, TPH Energy said Monday.
Public operators added three rigs while private operators dropped one, helping horizontal activity rise by two rigs over the week. Several rig transfers occurred between operators, including a net shift of three rigs from private to public companies, according to TPH Energy.
Regional activity showed mixed trends. Eagle Ford operators added four rigs while the Permian Basin lost four. TPH Energy said several Permian rig releases occurred, though data volatility likely accounted for much of the weakness.
The Baker Hughes rig count increased by one rig to 551, while the four-week change stood at plus four rigs. The Enverus count showed a larger gain, with both the weekly and trailing four-week increase reaching five rigs.
Offshore drilling activity in the Gulf of America remained unchanged at 17 floaters and four jackups working. In Canada, operators added seven rigs over the week, lifting activity to 184 rigs compared with 138 rigs working a year earlier, according to TPH Energy.
