The US dollar strengthened against the Canadian currency Monday afternoon on rising expectations that the US Federal Reserve could raise interest rates this week.
Gold prices fell on the increased rate rise expectations, with Comex gold December futures down 1.3% to $4,350.30 per ounce.
The greenback was last seen up 0.25% to CA$1.3903.
US 10-year bond yields were slightly lower Monday afternoon at 4.959%, after topping 5% earlier in the session.
Oil prices held above the $100 mark as fighting intensified in the Middle East.
West Texas Intermediate October futures benchmark rose 1.5% to $101.51, while November Brent crude futures edged up 1.1% to $105.78.
