US Central Command said Thursday that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for transit as diplomatic efforts between the US and Iran appeared to gain momentum.
"Safe pathways are established for commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz," US Central Command said in a post on X.
After sustaining multiple US military attacks on Wednesday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had declared the Strait of Hormuz closed, state media reported.
In Thursday's update, Centcom said the pathways would be available for all vessels.
"The pathways are available to all vessels not violating the blockade against Iran," Centcom said, adding that hundreds of ships have transited the Strait of Hormuz during the past two months.
"Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz," Centcom said, adding that US forces will defend against Iranian aggression.
The update was posted less than an hour before US President Donald Trump said he had canceled planned strikes on Iran after negotiations reached senior Iranian leadership, while adding that a naval blockade would remain in effect until a proposed agreement is finalized.
