US commercial crude oil inventories decreased by 400,000 barrels to 424.1 million barrels in the week ended Sep. 4, the Energy Information Administration said in its weekly report released Thursday.
Crude inventories matched the five-year average for this time of year, the EIA said. The draw is significantly below Investing.com's estimate of 1.4 mmbbls for the week ended Sep. 4.
US Strategic Petroleum Reserve inventories dropped to 285.4 mmbbls in the week ended Sep. 4, down from 286.6 mmbbls a week earlier, marking a weekly decline of 1.2 mmbbls, EIA data showed.
Crude oil input to refineries increased by 91,000 barrels per day from the previous week to average about 17.6 million b/d in the week ended Sep. 4. Crude oil production rose by 85,000 b/d to 13.9 mmb/d.
Commercial crude imports increased by 53,000 b/d to average about 6.8 mmb/d. Total motor gasoline stockpiles rose by 1.3 mmbbls from the previous week to 206.9 mmbbls, while distillate stocks rose by 2.1 mmbbls to 106.3 mmbbls.
