Update: Walmart Making 'Significant Investment' in US for Remodels, New Stores

Walmart (WMT) said Thursday it is making a "significant investment" across the US this year for remodels and opening new stores.

This year's investment includes over 650 scheduled remodels to the company's Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets, as well as about 20 new store openings slated for this year and early next year, the retailer said.

Walmart plans to open a new store in North Carolina this year and remodel 37 stores in the state. The opening of a new Supercenter in Celina, Texas, is planned for later this year.

The company intends to remodel 12 stores in Alabama, 18 in Arizona, 56 in California, 10 in Connecticut, 58 in Florida, 13 in Georgia, 20 in Louisiana and 10 in Maryland.

Remodels are also set for 13 stores in Massachusetts, 16 in Minnesota, 19 in Mississippi, nine in New Hampshire, 12 in New Jersey, 24 in New York, 25 in Oklahoma, 29 in South Carolina, 72 in Texas, seven in Utah and 19 in Virginia.

The updated stores will have features including wider aisles and revamped layouts, expanded assortments, and more pickup and delivery services, the company said.

Financial details were not disclosed.
