Update: US Equity Indexes Jump as Communication Services, Technology Giants Surge Amid Sliding Crude Oil Prices

US equity indexes rose as heavyweight communication services and technology names advanced amid sliding crude oil and government bond yields.

The Nasdaq Composite jumped 2.4% to 27,164.2, the S&P 500 climbed 1.6% to 7,775.3, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.8% to 52,098.1 ahead of Monday's close.

Communication services and consumer discretionary were among the top gainers, while energy led a trio of decliners.

Among stocks with market capitalization exceeding $200 billion, Arm (ARM), Intel (INTC), and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) were among the top 10 companies, according to data compiled by Finviz. Advanced Micro Devices traded above $1 trillion intraday.

The front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil contract slumped 4.8% to $95.46 per barrel, while the global benchmark North Sea Brent dropped 3.6% to $100.10 per barrel.

Most US Treasury yields declined, with the 10-year yield down 4.1 basis points to 4.96%, retreating from its highest level since 2007.
