Update: US Equity Futures Mostly Flat Pre-Bell Amid Lack of Progress in Middle East Peace Negotiations

US equity futures were mostly flat pre-bell Monday as traders evaluated the lack of solid progress on a peace deal in the Middle East.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were 0.1% lower, S&P 500 futures were flat, and Nasdaq futures were 0.1% lower.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that the nation would not restart direct talks with the US as long as it continues violating the June memorandum of understanding. Araqchi added that reopening the Strait of Hormuz would be partly conditional on the US paying for damage caused during the conflict between the two nations.

President Donald Trump said that the US is "only semi-negotiating" with Iran as the Middle Eastern nation undergoes an economic crisis due to sky-high inflation and has no money to pay its troops, according to an Axios report on Sunday.

Expected report their financial results this week are Cisco Systems (CSCO), Applied Materials (AMAT), and Brookfield (BN).

Oil prices were higher, with front-month global benchmark North Sea Brent crude up 1.9% at $85.13 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude 2% higher at $79.72 per barrel.

The economic calendar is vacant.

In other world markets, Japan's Nikkei closed 2.1% higher, Hong Kong's Hang Seng ended 1.1% higher, and China's Shanghai Composite finished 0.7% higher. Meanwhile, the UK's FTSE 100 was down 0.3%, and Germany's DAX index was 0.3% higher in Europe's early afternoon session.

In equities, SpaceX (SPCX) shares rose 1.3% after Reuters reported that retail investors sold shares for the first time last Friday since the June IPO. Meta Platforms (META) stock was up 1.9% after Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg called for lower US regulatory barriers for open-weight artificial intelligence models to help American companies compete with Chinese rivals.

Newmont (NEM) shares were 2.5% higher, while Barrick Mining (B) stock fell 6.2%, after the two companies said they agreed to contribute excluded properties, including Barrick's Fourmile and Newmont's Fiberline and Mike developments, to the Nevada Gold Mines joint venture, in an agreement wherein Newmont will pay Barrick $1.95 billion for the contribution of the properties.

On the losing side, Intel (INTC) shares dropped 4.1% after the company said it is offering $15 billion of common stock in a public offering. Cloudflare (NET) stock was 1.8% lower after the company said it plans to offer roughly $2.18 billion worth of convertible senior notes due 2031 through a private offering to institutional buyers.

Tadawul Shares Start Week Subdued; Saudi's Business Sentiment Remains Optimistic in July

The Tadawul All Share Index started the week muted at 0.05% in the green on Sunday as investors assessed Saudi Arabia's latest economic data and earnings updates.According to a report by the kingdom's General Authority for Statistics, the business confidence index in July came in at 56.5 points, slightly easing from 56.6 in the prior month. Data showed that the separate industry, construction, and services confidence indices all decreased during the period."The index reflects prevailing optimism in the business sector, supported by establishments' confidence in the stability of economic activity and continued growth across various sectors," the report said. "During July 2026, the BCI for the industry sector recorded an optimistic level of 54.7 points, despite a decline of 0.2 points compared to June 2026, when it reached 55.0 points. This decrease is attributed to a decline in confidence levels among industrial establishments, particularly in current input costs and their expectations regarding them for the coming month."Speaking of economic releases, the week will also see the release of Saudi Arabia's June industrial production data on Monday and its July inflation print on Thursday.Back at home, Obeikan Glass (SASE:4145), Shalfa Facilities Management (SASE:9613), and Saudi Manpower Solutions (SASE:1834), d/b/a Smasco, reported higher net profit and revenue for the first half of 2026. Miahona Co. (SASE:2084), on the other hand, logged a 90.74% decline in attributable net profit and a 35.36% decrease in revenue for the six months ended June 30.Obeikan and Shalfa closed 0.29% and 3.39% in the green, while Smasco and Miahona were 0.78% and 2.62% in the red.Meanwhile, Scientific and Medical Equipment House (SASE:4014) shares ticked up 0.29% as it secured a contract to provide medical operations and medical equipment maintenance services for the Security Aviation Leadership.

US Equity Indexes Rise This Week as Technology Mega-Caps Advance, Hormuz Reopening Deal in Works

US equity indexes jumped this week amid gains in technology heavyweights and growing expectations of a deal between Iran and Oman that will pave the way for a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, the chokepoint for about a fifth of global crude oil and natural gas flows.* The S&P 500 closed at 7,757.64 on Friday versus 7,494.08 a week ago. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended at 54,036.93, versus 52,535.02 at the end of last week.* Basic materials, technology, and industrials led gainers this week, while energy was the steepest decliner.* Among companies with a market capitalization of more than $200 billion, nine of the top 10 outperformers this week were from the technology sector, according to data compiled by Finviz. The top gainer in this category was Palantir (PLTR) after Q2 sales and adjusted earnings surpassed analysts' estimates and the company boosted its full-year 2026 revenue outlook.* Nonfarm payrolls fell by 23,000 in July, marking the first decline since February, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said Friday. The consensus was for an 80,000 increase in July, according to a Bloomberg-compiled survey.* The probability of the Federal Reserve keeping its target rate unchanged at 3.5%-3.75% in September surged to 56% on Friday from 45% a day ago and 33% a week ago, according to the CME FedWatch tool.* Iranian lawmakers debated the wording of a proposed deal with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz, Bloomberg reported. Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said earlier this week that an understanding with Oman had been reached "in principle," and state TV cited one lawmaker on Friday as saying the final text and details of an agreement with Muscat will be announced "soon."* The front-month West Texas Intermediate crude oil traded at $76.85 late Friday, down from roughly $84.67 a week ago.
