Update: US Equity Futures Mixed Pre-Bell as Iran, Oman Near Agreement on Strait of Hormuz Passage

US equity futures were mixed pre-bell Thursday amid reports that Iran and Oman are close to an agreement regarding passage through the Strait of Hormuz.

Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were 0.2% higher, S&P 500 futures were up 0.1%, and Nasdaq futures were 0.6% lower.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said that a joint announcement is being finalized regarding a shipping route through the waterway, which lies between Iran and Oman. An Iranian government official told MS Now that the temporary deal aims to allow the restart of the ceasefire between the US and Iran and the beginning of another 60-day round of negotiations, according to a CNBC report.

Traders digested the latest round of earnings, with ConocoPhillips (COP) reporting higher adjusted earnings and revenue for Q2.

Oil prices were higher, with front-month global benchmark North Sea Brent crude up 1.7% at $80.78 per barrel and US West Texas Intermediate crude 1.5% higher at $76.37 per barrel.

The weekly jobless claims bulletin, released at 8:30 am ET, showed 199,000 new unemployment claims for the week ended Aug. 1, compared with the upwardly revised figure of 198,000 in the prior week, and the 205,000 expected, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg. Q2 nonfarm productivity increased at a 1.4% annual rate, above forecasts for 0.6%, while unit labor costs increased 1.3%, compared with the 2.1% expected.

Federal Reserve St. Louis President Alberto Musalem is slated to speak on Thursday.

In other world markets, Japan's Nikkei closed 0.9% lower, Hong Kong's Hang Seng ended 1.5% lower, and China's Shanghai Composite finished 0.6% higher. Meanwhile, the UK's FTSE 100 was up 0.1%, and Germany's DAX index was 0.2% higher in Europe's early afternoon session.

In equities, Sandisk (SNDK) shares dropped more than 10% despite the company posting a fiscal Q4 adjusted earnings and revenue beat. Western Digital (WDC) stock was down 15% after the company reported its fiscal Q4 financial results late Wednesday. AppLovin (APP) shares plunged 19% after the company's Q2 revenue fell short of market expectations.

On the winning side, ConocoPhillips stock rose 2.1% after the company reported a Q2 adjusted earnings and revenue beat. Parker-Hannifin (PH) shares jumped 8.2% after the company posted better-than expected fiscal Q4 adjusted earnings and net sales. Howmet Aerospace (HWM) stock was up 3.5% after the company reported Q2 adjusted earnings and revenue that surpassed analysts' consensus and boosted its 2026 guidance.
