The combined count of crude oil, natural gas, and miscellaneous rigs in the US dropped by one to 562 in the week ending June 12, according to data from Baker Hughes (BKR) released Friday.
The US oil rig count rose by two from 431 the previous week to 433, while the number of gas rigs slipped by three from 124 the previous week to 121, the data showed.
The number of miscellaneous rigs in the US remained unchanged at eight from last week, in the week ending June 12.
The US had 439 oil, 113 gas, and three miscellaneous rigs in operation a year earlier.
The consolidated North American oil and gas rig count, a key early indicator of future production levels, rose by 10 to 742 from 732 the previous week.
