Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. or TSMC (TPE:2330) has confirmed that all personnel are safe and that operations are gradually resuming at its JASM facility in Kumamoto, Japan, following the magnitude-7 earthquake that struck Tuesday.
In a statement to, the contract chipmaker noted that the fab recorded a maximum seismic intensity of level 5, triggering immediate evacuations in line with safety protocols.
Detailed inspections and impact assessments remain ongoing, while the construction site was unaffected, although parts of building work are suspended as a safety precaution, the company said.
TSMC's shares fell nearly 3% in recent trade in Taipei.
