Update: Tesla's Racial Discrimination Trial in California Begins Today

Tesla (TSLA) faces trial in a lawsuit brought by the California Civil Rights Department, or CRD, over allegations of racial harassment and discrimination, with proceedings beginning today, CRD toldon Monday.

Opening statements are set to begin today, CRD said, noting that the court estimates the bench trial will last through Oct. 30.

The case, first filed in February 2022, alleges Tesla discriminated against Black and/or African American workers in job assignments, compensation, discipline, promotion, and termination, according to the CRD.

"Black workers are paid less for their work. They are subjected to racist slurs. They face threats of being fired for speaking out," CRD Director Kevin Kish said previously, according to the department.

Tesla did not immediately respond to' requests for comment.
