New Zealand shares ended flat with a negative bias on Friday while most Asian markets saw gains after Thursday's higher Wall Street close and the Bank of Japan's decision to hike rates to a 31-year high.
The S&P/NZX 50 was little changed to close at 13,739.14.
Overnight, the S&P 500 rose 1.1%, the Dow Jones gained 0.6%, and the Nasdaq Composite added 1.7%.
The Bank of Japan board voted 7-2 to raise the rate to 1.25% from 1% following the conclusion of its monetary policy meeting on Friday. The decision matched a forecast by Trading Economics.
In domestic news, international airfares in New Zealand rose 4.3% in August compared with the previous month, according to a Stats NZ selected price indexes report.
Also, New Zealand posted a merchandise trade deficit of NZ$1.3 billion in August, according to data published by Stats NZ.
Further, the number of transport motor vehicle registrations licensed in New Zealand in August stood at 4.6 million, with a slight increase compared with the same period last year, according to figures released by Stats NZ.
In corporate news, Bremworth (NZE:BRW) said the level of acceptances received under a partial takeover offer made by Mangawhai Collective reached 20.92% as of the end of Thursday.
Private Land and Property Fund (NZE:PLP) declared a dividend of NZ$0.0075 per share for the quarter ending Sept. 30.
