Macquarie Group (ASX:MQG) recently held discussions to acquire at least two physical metals trading businesses, including Cargill's ferrous metals subsidiary and concentrates trader Transamine, Bloomberg reported Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Macquarie evaluated an outright acquisition of Transamine and also weighed a potential joint venture, but the talks have closed for the time being, according to the report. Meanwhile, the company is the leading bidder for Cargill's ferrous metals unit, and those discussions have reportedly reached an advanced stage.
