Union Pacific Receives First Two Battery-Electric Locomotives for Testing

Union Pacific (UNP) said Wednesday that two Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies (WAB)-built battery-electric locomotives have arrived in Southern California for testing in rail yard operations.

The locomotives are the first of four FLXdrive units ordered by Union Pacific. The remaining two are scheduled to arrive in October, completing a fleet that will operate in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Union Pacific said it will test the locomotives in switching and local customer service operations to assess their performance and reliability.

Spire Global Wins $33.2 Million NOAA Contract for Satellite Weather Data

Spire Global (SPIR) won a $33.2 million contract from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to deliver global navigation satellite system radio occultation data to enhance weather forecasting.The data will feed NOAA's prediction models and support weather forecasting, space weather applications, and research by scientific organizations, Spire said Tuesday in a statement.The two-year contract, which starts Dec. 1, includes additional unfunded surge-buy options that may raise the total value to $66 million if fully exercised, the company said.Spire shares rose 2.2% in after-hours trading.
