Ukrainian long-range air strikes hit Russia's oil refinery complex, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a post on X on Wednesday, an attack that will add further pressure on its foe now plagued by growing fuel shortages.
Located more than 1,300 kilometers behind the frontline, the Ufa facility serves as one of Russia's premier hubs for specialized heavy lubricants.
Simultaneously, Ukrainian weapons struck a strategic military-industrial facility in the Penza region, roughly 600 kilometers from the frontline, which manufactures critical components for Russian missile systems.
Zelenskyy said the attacks were intended to starve the Kremlin's military of hardware and fuel.
Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries led to the imposition of restrictions on fuel sales in more than half of Russia's administrative regions by last week, according to Radio Free Europe, with further attacks on facilities still taking place.
