Ukraine Strikes Russian Oil, Gas Facilities in Overnight Attacks, General Staff Says

By

Ukraine's defense forces struck Russian oil and gas facilities in separate overnight attacks, Ukraine's General Staff said in a post on Telegram Tuesday.

Ukrainian forces hit units at the Afipsky oil refinery in Russia's Krasnodar region during the night of Aug. 25, the General Staff said.

A fire broke out at the refinery after the strike, while Ukrainian authorities continue assessing the extent of the damage, according to the post.

The ForteInvest-owned Afipsky refinery has an annual capacity of 6.25 million metric tons of oil and produces diesel and gasoline components, the General Staff said.

Krasnodar Krai Governor Veniamin Kondratiev said Tuesday in a post on Telegram that a fire broke out at the Afipsky oil refinery following the overnight attack.

Kondratiev added that drone debris killed two people and injured two others, while damaging at least 10 private homes and sparking a fire at one house.

Separately, Ukrainian forces struck two U-272 gas separation units at the Astrakhan gas processing plant in Russia's Astrakhan Oblast during the night of Aug. 24, the General Staff said.

The Gazprom system facility has a capacity of up to 12 billion cubic meters of gas and about 7.3 mt of gas condensate annually, the General Staff said.

The facility produces commercial natural gas, stabilized gas condensate, gasoline, diesel fuel, fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gases and technical sulfur, while its products support Russian armed forces and its sulfur supplies explosives manufacturing, the General Staff said.
