UK's National Energy System Operator issued an Electricity Margin Notice, or EMN, Thursday morning on X, ahead of the evening's peak demand period.
The tightening of power buffers is driven by an intense heatwave stretching across continental Europe, which has strained regional power systems, restricted external generation capacity, and significantly reduced cross-border power availability.
This is the third time the grid operator has issued an alert this summer warning of tight electricity supplies, according to Bloomberg.
In an official statement on X, Neso emphasized that the EMN is a routine operational tool designed to give market participants the opportunity to make additional generation or flexibility available.
The operator reassured the public that the system is being closely monitored and there is no risk to customer electricity supplies.
