The UAE has declared Sunday's attack on the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi a "terrorist attack," which is "unprovoked" and a direct threat to national security.
UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan Al Jaber said in a post on X that "the targeting of Barakah is a terrorist attack on a peaceful project," and emphasized that the facility will keep running.
The country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the "unprovoked terrorist attack" damaged an electricity generator outside the inner perimeter of the facility, "without causing any injuries or any impact on radiation safety levels."
On Sunday, the Ministry of Defense said it had launched an investigation into the sources of the attacks.
The Barakah power plant has four nuclear reactors, designed to produce 40 terawatt-hours of electricity annually, according to the Emirates Nuclear Energy Co. website.
Other organizations have also condemned the recent attack, including the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and India's Ministry of External Affairs.
Since the US-Iran war began in late February, the UAE has encountered a series of drone strikes targeting critical energy and maritime infrastructure.
