US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to gasoline retailers in a Truth Social post on Monday, demanding immediate pump price reductions to a target of $2.50 per gallon.
Trump asked domestic gasoline retailers to immediately lower prices at pumps, citing a sharp misalignment between current retail fuel costs and plunging crude prices, which Trump noted has fallen to $68 per barrel and is "heading south."
"There will be no gauging, which is totally illegal. If retailers don't do this, big problems lie ahead," Trump said.
The Brent crude futures contract dropped nearly 1% at $72.46 per barrel on Tuesday and were headed for its biggest monthly decline since 2020, falling more than 21% so far in June on a monthly basis.
