President Donald Trump said Thursday he has canceled the planned strikes on Iran after negotiations reached senior Iranian leadership and gained broader regional backing.
"Based on the fact that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have been brought to the highest level of Iranian leadership and approved, I have, as President of the United States of America, cancelled the scheduled strikes and bombings against Iran this evening," Trump said in a Truth Social post.
Trump said negotiators had agreed on both the framework and detailed terms of the arrangement, describing the discussions as largely complete.
"Discussions and final points have been, in both concept and great detail, approved by all parties involved, including the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt, and others," Trump said.
Trump added that the US will keep its naval blockade in place until the agreement is finalized, adding that the time and location for signing the deal will be announced shortly.
Oil prices declined after the announcement, with Brent crude futures falling 3.82% to $89.54 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate crude dropping 3.78% to $86.63/bbl.
