TotalEnergies (TTE.PA, TTE.L) said Monday the Paris Judicial Court dismissed claims seeking to block the company from pursuing new oil and gas projects or forcing it to reduce production under France's duty of vigilance law.
The court ruled that the law is not intended to hold companies responsible for climate change risks arising from "all human activity on the planet since the industrial revolution," adding that it is not the court's role to set emission targets for the French energy giant.
The company said the court also recognized that its vigilance plan addresses climate-related risks and outlines measures to reduce operational greenhouse gas emissions.
