Talen Energy Gets Regulatory Approvals to Acquire Power Plants in Indiana, Ohio

Independent power producer Talen Energy (TLN) said Monday it has received all regulatory approvals required for the $3.45 billion acquisition of Waterford Energy Center and Darby Generating Station in Ohio and Lawrenceburg Power Plant in Indiana.

The company recently received clearances from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission to acquire the power plants from Energy Capital Partners, the statement said.

Once the transaction is finalized in the coming weeks, Talen's natural gas generation capacity will expand by 2.6 gigawatts, according to the company.

CEZ Shareholders Approve Proposal for Ownership, Governance Overhaul

Czech energy company CEZ Group on Tuesday said that a proposal for the optimization of its ownership structure and governance was approved by shareholders during the company's general meeting on Monday.The proposal, first approved by the Board of Directors in April, recommended the transfer of the Group's customer segment to a separate subsidiary controlled by CEZ. It also proposed the sale of minority stakes in that same subsidiary and other customer-segment companies, according to a company statement in April.CEZ's customer segment primarily deals in distribution of electricity and natural gas, sale of electricity and natural gas to end customers, electricity and natural gas trading, smart energy services and telecommunication services.The move could potentially pave the way for full government control of the country's main power plants, Reuters said in an article on Monday. The government holds a near 70% stake in the company.The company's distribution networks and trading and customer sales segments together accounted for about 40% of the group's 137 billion crowns ($6.56 billion) in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization in 2025, the report said.Should the proposals gain shareholder approval, the board will decide on how and when to move its customer business into the subsidiary and whether a transfer of debt should also be part of the transaction, the company said in an April statement.The transfer is expected to be completed by the end of Q1 2027, according to that same statement.

US Judge Refuses to Release GE Vernova From $4.5 Billion New England Wind Project

A Massachusetts judge has refused to release GE Vernova (GEV) from its contractual work on a $4.5 billion wind farm in New England, saying it should instead raise its dispute with developer Vineyard Wind to arbitration.Suffolk County Superior Court Judge Peter Krupp noted that nothing had materially changed since he had passed the injunction in April, allowing Vineyard Wind to pursue its legal dispute in court for immediate relief.Vineyard Wind, a joint venture between Spain's Iberdrola and Denmark's Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, had sued GE Vernova after the company had issued a notice threatening to terminate its agreement due to non-payment of $360 million.The company had argued that GE Vernova's decision to exit its 62-turbine, 806-megawatt project would threaten its commercial viability.In his judgment, Krupp noted that the project relied on GE's "expertise and proprietary know-how to bring the turbines up to operational capacity," thus putting it in jeopardy if the company, its employees, and subcontractors decided to walk out abruptly.Vineyard Wind had argued that it was entitled to withhold payments from GE Vernova after one of its turbine blades collapsed and fell into the waters of Nantucket in 2024.

Rosneft Q1 Hydrocarbon Output Rises; Asset Impairments Likely due to Attacks

Russian state-controlled energy company Rosneft said Monday its Q1 hydrocarbon production rose 0.9% versus Q4 2025, but cautioned of potential asset impairments amid continued retaliatory attacks by Ukraine on its infrastructure.Q1 results showed that oil and gas production grew quarter over quarter to 5.2 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, as a rise in gas output more than offset a decline in liquid production.Liquid output dropped 0.4% sequentially to 3.7 mmboe/d due to adverse weather conditions in West and East Siberia, according to the report. Gas production grew 4.3% to 1.5 mmboe/d, driven by offshore projects.Production drilling footage exceeded 2.5 million meters during the quarter, with more than 600 new wells commissioned, the company said.The report also showed that oil refining throughput increased 5.2% from a quarter earlier to 18.9 million tons, as operations at some refineries resumed following maintenance works.In terms of supply to the domestic market, the company sold 9.7 million tons of petroleum products in Q1. Gasoline and diesel volumes totaled 3.1 mmt and 3.7 mmt, respectively.However, Rosneft highlighted that "the industry continues to face significant operational risks," including crude intake restrictions, export terminal disruptions, and attacks on the company's refineries, tank farms, and pumping stations."Given the above, the company is assessing the need to provision for potential assets impairments, which could adversely impact financial results," Rosneft said.Ukraine has stepped up attacks on Russian oil infrastructure, seeking to deprive the country of oil revenues that help to fund its four-year invasion of its neighbor.The company noted that shareholder interests remain its top priority, and committed to "strive" to raise shareholder income, "as the macroeconomic environment stabilizes and both production volumes and profits grow."
