AT&T's (T) second-quarter earnings beat Wall Street's estimates Wednesday as stronger-than-expected growth in wireless subscribers pushed annual revenue higher year-on-year.
The telecommunications giant reported adjusted earnings of $0.65 a share for the June quarter, up from $0.54 the year before, topping the FactSet-polled consensus of $0.59. Operating revenue improved 2.3% to $31.56 billion, but missed the Street's view for $31.8 billion.
The stock gained 5.7% in the most recent premarket activity.
AT&T added 432,000 net postpaid phone subscribers in the quarter, higher than the consensus on FactSet for 338,500 additions. The company added 401,000 net subscribers a year earlier and 294,000 in the first quarter.
The company "delivered a record quarter for combined fiber and fixed wireless net adds and its strongest consumer postpaid wireless account growth in more than three years," it said in a statement.
Revenue in the advanced connectivity segment rose 4.1% to $28.62 billion in the second quarter, driven by a gain of 5.1% in services, according to the company. Wireless service revenue grew 3.3%, buoyed by retail subscribers in underpenetrated categories and converged accounts, as well as pricing actions, the firm said.
AT&T continues to anticipate adjusted EPS of $2.25 to $2.35 in 2026. The Street is looking for non-GAAP EPS of $2.32.
