South Korean authorities, led by the police and the Ministry of Employment and Labor, have launched an investigation following a fatal workplace accident at a high-speed railway construction project being carried out by an SK Inc. (KRX:034730) subsidiary, according to a Thursday Korea Exchange filing.
A subcontractor worker died after being caught in a conveyor belt during an on-site inspection of the Section 2 of the Peyongtaek-Osong Double Track High-Speed Railway expansion project.
The section is being constructed under a contract held by SK Inc. subsidiary SK Ecoplant.
SK Inc. said it plans to establish recurrence prevention measures following the incident.
Shares of the company fell 7% in recent trade.
