The Ministry of Science and ICT of the Republic of Korea and US-based chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) signed a partnership to develop a sovereign AI infrastructure and semiconductor ecosystem in South Korea, AMD said in a Monday release.
The two parties plan to work together on AI for science and physical AI, software development, advanced research, talent development, and foundation models and world models for physical AI, including a computing environment that combines AMD central processing units and graphics processing units with Korea-developed AI technologies, the release said.
AMD plans to establish an AMD AI center of excellence in South Korea, which will support AMD's global AI software development while increasing collaboration with South Korean universities, research institutions, and the broader AI ecosystem, it said.
